The Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office of Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU) has

an opening for a Manager of Conservation Services.  The successful candidate

will join a highly motivated conservation team responsible for managing

and delivering regional wetland mitigation programs, but primarily focused

in New York and Vermont.  This full-time salaried position will operate

out of the North Atlantic Field office in Syracuse, NY.

Qualifications

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

 

Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources, Business, Wildlife Management,

Engineering or an applicable related field from an accredited college or

university.

 

Knowledge of wetland mitigation rules and regulations.

 

Desirable experience includes seeking out wetland restoration opportunities,

wetland mitigation implementation, vegetative sampling protocol, wildlife

management, invasive species control, hydrology monitoring, wetland delineation,

wetland permitting through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state level

permitting agencies, state historic preservation office permits, land acquisition,

land protection through conservation easements, threatened and endangered

species permits, soil and erosion control permits, project budget management,

program management.

 

Excellent management skills, written and oral communication skills, inter-personal

skills, mitigation plan writing, and monitoring report writing are required.

 

Applicants must have knowledge of state and federal wetland regulations,

policies and laws.

 

Self-motivated, goal oriented and self-starter.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

As part of managing the mitigation program, the successful candidate will

work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection

Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, state agencies, large corporations,

businesses, and consulting firms on wetland mitigation projects.  Workload

will be primarily focused on supervising staff and delivery of wetland mitigation

projects for the region, but primarily with the New York and Vermont In-Lieu

Fee Mitigation Programs. Duties and responsibilities include:

 

Developing mitigation plans for wetland restoration projects.

 

Supervision of mitigation staff.

 

Coordinating and managing complex In-Lieu Fee programs.

 

Develop and steward collaborative relationships with IRT and Agency personnel.

 

Managing the regional budget for the mitigation program.

 

Writing and reviewing permit applications for wetland impacts, SHPO and

T & E species.

 

Work with engineering colleagues on project designs, plans and reports for

mitigation projects as required.

 

Attend project meetings, conduct field inspection and perform construction

management oversight as needed.

 

Assist with occasional field work as required which could include strenuous

outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions.  Must be able to

operate ATV when necessary.

 

Coordinate staff allocation with Managers of Conservation Services and Regional

Engineers.

 

Position will travel between states of responsibility and occasionally outside

of the region for conferences and meetings.

 

Represent DU in a professional manner at all times.
