Manager of Conservation Programs
Louisiana

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking qualified candidates for the Manager of Conservation Programs and our conservation efforts in Louisiana.  DU’s mission is to conserve, restore, and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl.  These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.

DU’s Louisiana conservation program focuses on restoring, enhancing, and protecting critical wetlands in the state, primarily through its Gulf Coast and America’s River Initiatives.  We are seeking an individual with proven abilities in team leadership, strategic and business plan implementation, budget and personnel administration, land protection, programmatic fundraising, partnership development, and public policy to help lead our conservation programs.

A minimum of 5 years of related experience and an advanced degree in ecology, biology, or environmental sciences is preferred.  Candidates must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a diverse team.  Candidates should have experience in conservation, fundraising, and/or land protection efforts. Programmatic responsibilities for this position exist state-wide, but are focused in the Lower Mississippi Valley and coastal Louisiana wetlands.  Significant local travel is required.

Duties will include:

  • Providing leadership to facilitate the growth and implementation of DU’s conservation initiatives in Louisiana.
  • Supervising a staff of conservation professionals and preparing and managing annual budgets.
  • Managing diverse and discrete program elements in varying regions of the state. Examples include: Rice Stewardship Program, Wetland Reserve Program, Louisiana Waterfowl Project – a partnership-based private lands conservation effort - North American Wetlands Conservation Act-funded restoration efforts, and conservation programs with corporate landowners in coastal Louisiana.
  • Guiding the development, selection, prioritization and delivery of conservation projects.
  • Cooperating with fundraising staff to secure funding for conservation work in Louisiana and elsewhere.
  • Developing new and managing existing relationships with federal, state, private landowner, and corporate partners.
  • Becoming familiar with Louisiana’s Comprehensive Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast.
  • Assisting communications and marketing efforts.
  • Working with Director’s of Conservation Programs, Science and Policy, and Services on regional strategic and business plans, fundraising, science, public policy and budget and personnel administration.
