Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking qualified candidates for the Manager of Conservation Programs for its conservation efforts in Nebraska and Kansas.  DU’s mission is to conserve, restore, and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl.  These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.

DU’s Nebraska conservation program focuses on restoring, enhancing, and protecting critical wetlands in the state primarily in the Rainwater Basin and along the Platte River.  In Kansas, our efforts are focused on restoring, enhancing, and protecting large marshes and playa lakes.  We are seeking an individual with proven skills in strategic planning, land protection, collaborative leadership and partner development, and programmatic fundraising to help lead implementation and growth of these programs.

Preference will be given to applicants with an advanced degree, preferably in the natural resources, environmental sciences, ecology, or management and business administration.  Candidates must have excellent communications skills and be able to work independently and as a member of a diverse team.  The ideal candidate will have experience in land conservation, fundraising, and strategic planning.

Duties will include:

  • Providing leadership and team building for implementing DU’s exciting conservation initiatives in Nebraska and Kansas.
  • Supervising biologists and preparing and managing annual budgets.
  • Purchasing, restoring, and selling conservation lands.
  • Assisting fundraising staff to increase major gift efforts in both states.
  • Developing new and managing existing relationships with state, private, and agency partners.
  • Implementing public policy initiatives.
  • Assisting communications and marketing efforts.
  • Working with Great Plains Regional Office directors on regional planning and fundraising.

This position will be located in the Grand Island, Nebraska and will report to the Director of Conservation Programs also located in Grand Island.
