The Primary Industries lie at the heart of New Zealand's economy. The Ministry for Primary Industries plays a key role in partnering with those industries to enable their success. We provide advice to Government on the broad range of issues affecting New Zealand's prosperity in this area – production, resource policy, trade, biosecurity, and food policy.

We are a new ministry looking for bold, confident people who are prepared to take informed risks to get the job done.

The Policy Branch currently has an exciting opportunity for a Manager of North Island Regions to come in and lead the Waikato, Hawkes Bay and Bay of Plenty policy teams. The position would be based at the regional office in one of these three regions.

You will be responsible for policy advice supported by research, expert knowledge and analysis on issues affecting the performance of the agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision and guidance to staff members in the North Island regional offices.
  • Manage relationships with important industry and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensuring critical regional issues and perspectives are integrated into policy analysis and development processes within the wider Policy branch.
  • Lead the region input through the gathering, analysing and disseminating of information on the primary sectors.
  • Development and coordination of Adverse Events Responses.

We are looking for a networked Manager who can use their primary sector experience to build strong working relationships between the Government, industry and the regional communities as the ‘face' of MPI in the regions. You will have knowledge of local issues and feed into government policy and achieve effective outcomes for the Primary Industries.

Working at MPI puts you at the centre of the government policy process. An opportunity to work across a broad range of issues, and really make a difference!
