The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is a private, non-profit organization that prides itself on its entrepreneurial, science-based approach to achieving conservation success through direct action. NCC has experienced dramatic growth in recent years, and is now listed as the 13th largest non-profit organization in Canada, with a national office in Toronto and seven regional offices across the country. Purpose and General Description:This position is a wonderful opportunity to work for an exciting, fast-paced, successful organization and build a new coordinated program area. NCC has been on a growth trajectory for a number of years and continues to build its conservation actions, care of the land, donor base, partnerships, funding and positive reputation. Nearing the end of an unprecedented $500 million fundraising campaign, NCC has found itself in the enviable position of having a number of exciting ventures and opportunities to build on. This new position is best suited for a senior candidate with at least five years related experience in a comparable role with an understanding of land conservation, stewardship and working with volunteers and interns. It requires a bright, organized individual with great attention to detail, team building, fundraising, and strong communication skills. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and professional, have the ability to multi-task and manage requests from multiple sources, possess strong written and analytical skills, and demonstrate program and people management and financial acumen. Reporting RelationshipsThe Manager, Conservation Engagement reports to the Vice President Regional Operations and works closely with the regional conservation teams as well as regional and national fundraising and communications leads. This position will have one report, an Assistant role, to be hired. Duties and Responsibilities:The Manager, Conservation Engagement will work closely with the Vice President, Regional Operations to design, build, fund and run a coordinated program of conservation engagement across Canada. This will include bringing NCC’s currently successful focal areas of Conservation Volunteers and Conservation Interns together under one banner and further developing and growing them. This is an exciting opportunity to grow and coordinate some excellent programs. Conservation Volunteers is NCC’s tool to allows Canadians across the country a hands-on experience in nature while helping NCC to do effective stewardship or care on its land. This program runs across the country, is designed and led regionally, but coordinated nationally. It has been successful but still holds significant opportunities for growth. The Conservation Intern Program allows University students to spend a paid summer internship at NCC working with staff on many aspects of our science and stewardship work. These internships further NCC’s ability to manage properties and help to raise the next generation of conservationists. The Conservation Intern program is in its last year of full funding and needs to be renewed and further developed. This position will take the lead on a key area of NCC’s five year Strategic Plan to ensure further outreach to, and engagement of Canadians in NCC’s work. This position will build the Conservation Engagement program as a whole, ensure its ongoing funding, manage prospects and donors, develop a supporting communications program, develop and manage the program’s annual budget, schedule, timeline and outcomes. This position will work with both regional and national NCC offices and staff to develop and carry out the program. Required Skills and Attributes:
