The Major Gifts and Development Program is a priority and major initiative of the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), British Columbia region.  The Manager, Major Gifts leads the preparation and delivery of strategies and activities for major gifts (over $10K) and development in British Columbia.  The Manager reports to the NCC Regional Vice-President, British Columbia, and works closely with 3 major structural areas within NCC: National, and ensures alignment and coherence with goals and objectives; Regional, and ensures timely delivery of funding for general operations and support for projects at the program level; and Regional Board, and provides ongoing support for development activities undertaken by Directors.

The goal of the Major Gifts and Development Program is to attract and retain donors from, among others, Individual, Foundations, Corporate and Public sectors and to develop enduring and collaborative relations that form the critical underpinning of the non-profit conservation agency.  Currently, the structure of the program consists of two positions: Manager, Major Gifts, and a Development Assistant & Coordinator.  The Program also relies on national and regional offices to assist in the delivery of development goals.   The position will also serve as a Member of the Regional Executive and in an advisory capacity to various bodies within NCC, including the Regional Board of Directors.

The need for successful and cost-effective development is necessary and essential to advance the mission and mandate of NCC within BC.  In view of the large and diverse conservation community within the province of BC competing for similar funding sources, the Manager will seek long term investment in NCC BC that aligns with the unique and distinguishing values and characteristics of NCC.  These include, among others: a “business-like” approach; science-based planning framework; accountability & trust; “on the ground” results; organizational resilience and rigor; strong governance; land stewardship; professional excellence & credibility; and long-term commitment.  NCC prides itself upon these salient organizational features, as well as its collaborative approach and ability to create strong relationships that encourage a positive and favourable environment for donor investment.

The Manager will focus on the untapped funding opportunity that exists within BC, particularly in the lower mainland and emerging geographic centres with interests in land conservation.  There is tremendous opportunity to grow and strengthen the existing donor base - approximately 3750 donors - in BC, within recognized financial and organizational parameters.
