Overview

The World Resources Institute’s People and Ecosystems Program (PEP) is seeking a full time Green Supply Chains Manager for Global Forest Watch 2.0 (GFW 2.0), a new interactive, online forest monitoring system that unites satellite imagery, cloud computing, and crowd-sourced data to create never-before-possible transparency in forests around the world. The Green Supply Chains Manager will be responsible for leading collaborations with major companies seeking to explore if and how the GFW 2.0 system could be used to monitor “deforestation-free” commitments in their supply chains, or other sustainability-related goals. The position will report to the GFW 2.0 Senior Manager and will be part of a larger team seeking to cultivate the GFW 2.0 platform and support its use by governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and communities around the world. Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the corporate engagement component of the GFW 2.0 initiative;
  • Build strategic partnerships with companies (buyers and producers of major
    companies) who are potential users of the GFW 2.0 system;
  • Work closely with GFW 2.0’s corporate partners to identify and pilot applications of the GFW 2.0 system for supply chain management, including
    for meeting “deforestation-free” commitments;
  • Help ensure that GFW 2.0 continues to meet corporate user needs over time;
  • Represent the initiative to private sector partners and stakeholders around the
    world;
  • Identify and advance new lines of research and analysis relevant to the initiative’s corporate engagement strategy;
  • Produce, review, and edit research reports, communications materials, and other written outputs to ensure they meet WRI’s high standard of quality;
  • Support fundraising activities led by the GFW 2.0 Senior Manager and Forest
    Initiative Director as needed.
Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in business, finance, or operations management with a focus on supply chain and logistics preferred. Other academic disciplines may be suitable depending on work experience. Additional studies related to the environment are an advantage;
  • 5 to 10 years of experience, including in supply chain planning / sourcing and preferably for wood/paper/pulp and/or relevant agricultural supply chains;
  • Experience working in or with supplier countries outside of the US and EU.
  • Interest in or experience with environmental issues, especially forest issues;
  • Understanding of supplier risk mitigation strategies, supply chain key performance indicators, and analytics related to supplier environmental performance;
  • Knowledge of balanced supplier environmental score card strategies and supplier engagement approaches;
  • Superb analytical and strategic thinking skills;
  • Experience designing and implementing research or analyses for a corporate audience;
  • Ability to write in an organized, clear, and articulate manner (in English);
  • Ability to communicate clearly and compellingly to a wide range of audiences and especially the private sector;
  • Results focused, with a strong team orientation, and the ability to work well under pressure toward a tight deadline;
