Conservation International works in fisheries around the world, to improve fisheries for the benefit of the people who rely on them the most. CI’s Fisheries Strategy is designed to deliver improved food security and livelihoods for fishery-dependent communities by implementing sustainable fisheries solutions built from partnerships and investments from ocean to plate. This position will support the advancement of CI’s Fisheries Strategy by teams across CI.
The Fisheries Manager will manage / administer cross-divisional fisheries projects, support project monitoring & evaluation and reporting, coordinate with donors, create and implement project workplans, manage consultants, provide technical support to field teams and partners, consolidate and share lessons learned among CI projects and geographies, and support fundraising and project development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage cross-divisional fisheries projects, including the GEF-funded Ocean Partnerships for Sustainable Fisheries and Biodiversity Conservation – Models for Innovation and Reform Project: (OPP) wherein CI provides technical assistance and innovation to aid other executing agencies in the development of business plans. These will catalyze investment in transformational public-private partnerships, to mainstream the sustainable management of highly migratory fish stocks spanning areas within and beyond national jurisdiction.
- Lead technical assistance to target geographies under the OPP where CI does not have staff on the ground, particularly the Bay of Bengal region.
- Consult with partners, design and organize logistics for multiple-geography technical assistance activities and workshops under the OPP project and additional fisheries projects for which CI receives funding.
- Coordinate, develop, and facilitate communications and sharing of lessons learned among CI staff engaged in fisheries projects globally.
- Support and promote fundraising and project development efforts for the implementation of CI’s Fisheries Strategy.
- Prepare donor reports and coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions
- Normal office conditions.
- Frequent international travel up to 30% of the work time.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 3+ years of fisheries management experience.
- Technical proficiency in fisheries management.
- Proven track record in managing projects; proficiency in report preparation, results monitoring and evaluation.
- Highly organized and strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with multicultural, multidisciplinary teams to produce positive results.
- Experience working in a developing country context.
- Experience working with multilateral agencies, the World Bank Group in particular.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Familiarity with policy and management of highly migratory fish stocks.
- Experience working in the Bay of Bengal region.
- Demonstrated understanding of business case creation and research methodologies.
