The Manager for Fisheries Partnerships will be responsible for developing and managing collaborative initiatives with the fishing communities of Hawaii. This position reports to the Director, Hawaii Marine Program and is responsible for creating a network of fishers that includes people from all Main Hawaiian Islands and has adequate representation from the numerous types of fishing communities including subsistence, cultural, recreational, shoreline, boat, commercial, and aquarium collectors. S/he will manage the advisory board for the Fisheries Collaborative Fund and oversee grant making from this fund. Also, this position is responsible for creating collaborative actions with fishing leaders that range from field projects to statewide policy initiatives. Key Responsibilities: • Engage Hawaii fishers (subsistence, noncommercial, and commercial) in marine stewardship. Participate in fishing events to build relationships with fishers. Create collaborative projects involving both fishers and environmental partners to further the goals of the Hawaii Fish Trust. • Manage the Fisheries Collaborative Fund Advisory Board. Provide information exchange between fishers and the Advisory Board. Manage grantmaking decision by the advisory board. • Provide technical oversight for the Fisheries Collaborative Fund grants, including tracking progress, reviewing programmatic reports, ensuring budgets are on course, and providing strategic guidance and inputs where appropriate • Coordinate with members of the Hawaii Marine Program team to ensure fishing leadership input into all aspects of the program. • Support fundraising efforts, develop project proposals, identify and pursue new sources of funding for the Hawaii Marine Program 1Education, experience, skills and abilities Required: • Extensive knowledge of Hawaii's nearshore marine environment including coral reef ecology, fisheries science, oceanography, watershed cycles, and anthropogenic threats • Extensive knowledge of Hawaii's socio-cultural environment including Native Hawaiian and local culture, customs, social dynamics, economy, and history of interactions between environmental groups and fisheries groups • Demonstrated knowledge of Hawaii marine resource laws and regulations • 5+ years fishing experience • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and working collaborations across sectors • Project management experience including tracking progress, reviewing programmatic reports, and adaptive management based on project successes and/or challenges • Experience working in the partnership model and achieving goals by coordinating numerous organizations' activities • Bachelors degree • Experience managing grants and budgets Preferred: • Graduate degree in fisheries science, ocean policy, social science, business management or related field • Nearshore fishing experience in the Main Hawaiian Islands • Research experience in fisheries science • Experience coordinating groups of fishers in a Pacific Island context Working Conditions: The position will require 25% interisland travel and occasional domestic or international travel. This position requires a flexible schedule including working numerous nights and weekends.
