Description

The Consortium for Ocean Leadership is pleased to announce the search for a Manager, Education and Public Engagement, Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). This is a regular, part-time (50%), exempt position. The position will report to the Associate Program Director, OOI.

The Manager, Education and Public Engagement, OOI provides oversight, coordination, and  technical review of education and public engagement (EPE) development for ocean observing activities; coordinates and tracks progress of the development, management, and delivery of education and public engagement infrastructure related to Ocean Leadership’s implementation of the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) through the cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF). The EPE Manager has oversight responsibility for the EPE implementing organization’s progress and performance and ensuring delivery of required documentation and data; also provides expertise and coordination for EPE activities working with the Program Office and OOI implementing organizations. The EPE Manager enables the development and implementation of strategies to promote interest in the OOI to the wider science education communities and public, including planning and implementation of scientific and education workshops, education user group meetings, and other specialized meetings associated with the OOI project.

Qualified applicants must possess an advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., science and/or education) and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in academically focused, education program administration or management, or equivalent science education training and management experience; experience in or knowledge of advanced approaches to post-secondary education and free-choice and inquiry-based learning, such as web-based interfaces, virtual community work environments, social networking, culturally diverse formats, data visualization, and gaming knowledge; experience in the development and implementation of science/education systems; familiarity with scientific ocean observing activities; demonstrated planning, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities; ability to work independently to prioritize work and complete projects with general direction; excellent writing, editorial, and communication skills; agility with standard office software tools, email, Word, Excel, and Internet tools; and initiative and creativity in suggesting and researching relevant new program concepts
