Description

The mission of the WWF Tigers Alive Initiative (TAI) is to help double the wild tiger population to at least 6,000 by 2022. The WWF TAI Unit is a global team working in more than 15 countries (hosted by WWF Malaysia in the Petaling Jaya office close to Kuala Lumpur).


Description of position

Being the Manager, Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS), you will be responsible for rolling out and implementing CA|TS in sites across Asia. Geographically the focus of the project will lie in the 12 Tigers Alive Landscapes across Asia.

You will be required to communicate / negotiate with senior government officials and other stakeholders to promote and secure the adoption of CA|TS in Tiger Conservation Areas across Asia.

While the first version of the standards has been developed, an ongoing process of improvement is foreseen, therefore you will be required to facilitate further improvements and development of the standards.

A governance system which has already conceptualized needs to be set up for CA|TS and supported operationally, you will lead in this process. This will require negotiation of contracts with consultants and other specialists (both national and international).

As the Manager, CA|TS you will also be required to supply technical support to sites in the field as well facilitate other technical support where it is available in the field. This will mean coordinating WWF 'CA|TS’ staff on the ground as well as other CA|TS supporting group.

You will be required to work with managers at WWF country offices, designated CA|TS support staff both WWF and other, protected area managers in Tiger Conservation Areas, senior government conservation officers and conservation field staff. You will report to the Protected Area and Enforcement Specialist who manages the CA|TS project and reports directly to the Tigers Alive Initiative Leader. You will also be the main focal to the general public and other stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in setting up and coordinate a governance system for CA|TS accreditation.
  • Provide technical support to sites registering for CA|TS accreditation.
  • Manage coordination of staff tasked with supporting CA|TS at sites.
  • Continued improvement of the CA|TS process and development of best practice models related to the standards.
  • Maintain the database of CA|TS sites and their progress in the accreditation process.
  • Promote CA|TS to conservation agencies and tiger areas.
  • Insure registration and accreditation of targeted sites annually.
Requirements:
  • Degree and/or Master in Natural Resource Management, Protected Area Management, Biodiversity Conservation or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of proven field experience in South or South East Asia (SEA).
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to network.
  • Able to work in remote areas with low levels of logistical support on site, with significant portions of time spent working and travelling in remote areas.
  • Able to coordinate and lead strategically and operationally, various teams and tasks, and set / meet deadlines.
  • Proposal writing and presentation skills.
  • Good administrative and report writing skills.
  • Excellent skills in spoken and written English with fluency in another South or SEA language an added big advantage.
  • Goal oriented, able to meet targets and objectives.
