Description

Around the world, climate change is exacerbating droughts, floods, heat waves and extreme weather events; and these impacts are expected to worsen in the coming decades. Conservation International (CI) believes that harnessing the immediate potential of natural ecosystems to buffer those impacts is critical. A promising approach to build people’s resilience to climate impacts is ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA): the use of biodiversity and ecosystem services as part of an overall strategy to help people adapt to the adverse effects of climate change.

The Manager for Climate Adaptation Policy will support CI’s global climate adaptation policy initiatives and contribute to the development and implementation of national adaptation policies. S/he will support CI’s climate policy priorities related to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through tracking relevant negotiations and preparing policy analyses of national and international adaptation policies and practices. S/he will also contribute to the implementation of relevant CI regional strategies, including the piloting of CI EbA tools, and assist in the development of relevant case studies, policy document, and other EbA policy resources.

Under the guidance of the Climate Policy Lead, the Manager will support the development and implementation of a climate policy strategy under CI’s Climate Strategy, including climate finance work at the international and national levels. The manager will contribute to CI’s preparation for and engagement at UNFCCC negotiations, including cross-divisional climate policy coordination, CI delegation management and event organization.
