CDP is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to support and grow our work with city governments around the world, particularly in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region. Over 200 city governments worldwide use CDP’s system every year to report their progress on fighting climate change. Major universities, the UNFCCC, the World Bank, the IPCC, and hundreds of other organizations rely on CDP’s city data for research and decision-making.
The Manager will play the key role in the expansion of CDP’s work with cities in EMEA. The Manager’s responsibilities will include recruiting cities to participate in CDP; supporting major cities in key geographies in preparing and submitting their annual CDP responses; coordinating CDP’s global communication with cities; establishing new partnerships and liaising with important stakeholders like C40; and raising funds to further grow CDP’s work. The Manager will establish and manage direct relationships with city governments and potential funders across EMEA.
For the right candidate this position has the opportunity grown in to a deputy head of program role with increased global responsibility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Grow CDP’s cities program in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, including recruitment of additional responding cities and funding partners;
- Enable high response rates among cities by providing support, encouragement and expertise;
- Support major regional cities in preparing and submitting their annual responses to CDP;
- Identify and help to establish key strategic partnerships that can multiply CDP’s impact;
- Identify and build new relationships with corporate partners and sponsors to grow the cities programme;
- Develop proposals for government and philanthropic fundraising opportunities;
- Produce stand-alone reports, white papers, blog posts and other analysis based on reported data, including assisting with CDP’s annual global report on cities;
- Present CDP and our vision for low carbon cities to a wide range of high-level audiences in the region in order to build support for CDP;
- Organize roundtables, webinars and other events that facilitate the successful functioning of CDP’s cities program in EMEA;
- Help to develop and extend new products and services to city governments;
- Work as a member of the distributed, global CDP Cities team;
- Work closely with the wider CDP team to encourage the promotion of all CDP programs and activities.
Required skills and experience:
- A minimum of three years experience working in the corporate, governmental, or non-governmental sphere, preferably in a sustainability-related field;
- A proven track record in fundraising, sales, or other similar activities;
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills;
- An entrepreneurial spirit and desire to own and drive the delivery of successful projects;
- Ability to interact effectively with high level management and government officials;
- An understanding of local government and the impact of climate change on cities;
- Knowledge of the issues of greenhouse gas accounting and reduction, adaptation to climate change in cities;
- Ability to quickly grasp and master new IT systems including CRM and database solutions;
- Strong data analysis skills, including experience working with advanced analytics or business intelligence solutions, especially for publication;
- Self-motivation and an ability to take the initiative;
- Positive and enthusiastic outlook even while working under pressure;
- Attention to detail while being able to see the big picture;
- Fluency in written and spoken English and French. Additional languages a plus.
The role is based at CDP’s offices in Central London. The successful candidate will work 5 days per week with occasional weekend or evening work and some travel. You must be legally able to work in the UK. Competitive NGO salary.
