Vestas Technology R&D Americas, Inc. 
The Houston Technology R&D facility is currently being staffed to support Vestas research efforts within the wind technology areas of aerodynamics, acoustics, aero-elasticity, structural dynamics, controls, drive systems and energy systems. 
 
Functional Area:
The Rotor System function of Vestas Global Research is responsible for the development, acquisition, and exploitation of wind turbine technology in the fields of Aerodynamics, Aero-acoustics, Aeroelasticity, Controls, Materials, Mechanical Systems and Structures.  A primary objective for all research initiatives in Vestas is to lower the cost of wind energy, ensuring Vestas’ position as the world’s leader in modern energy
 
Position Reports To:  
Director, Rotor Systems in Houston, TX
 
Brief Description:
As the Manager of the Aerodynamics and Acoustics team, you will lead, manage and coach a team of researchers focused on delivering innovative technologies for wind power plants. The team works with the Loads & Controls team and other groups within Global Research, stakeholders across Vestas as well as external partners to ensure maximal impact on Vestas’ cutting edge products and goals. Your main responsibilities will be to:
·         Lead creation, selection and execution of R&D projects in the Aero team, managing resources and priorities
·         Nourish innovation and technical rigor in the team, guide multi-disciplinary integration with other Rotor System efforts
·         Develop and hone the team’s competency edge in the Aero technology space and wind systems, coaching and mentoring R&D personnel
·         Guide and advise senior functional, project and product management teams
·         Work with Global Research & Innovations (GRI)/ Engineering leadership to drive and influence Aero technology roadmaps
·         Provide leadership in creating and maturing needed elements of  the Aero technology roadmaps (tools, concepts, validation) to constantly improve team vitality to Vestas
·         Create and drive external focus with international academic and R&D partners
·         Maintain domain knowledge in development of technologies, standards, products/solutions and processes
 
Educational Requirements:
·         Masters in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or similar         required with focus around fluid/aero sciences; Ph.D. preferred.
 
Required Experience
·           10+ years of experience post-Masters,  or 5+ yrs post-Ph.D. within R&D or product technology functions, preferably in the Wind or Aerospace industries (e.g., Aircraft, Rotorcraft,  or Turbomachinery)
·           Demonstrated depth and expertise in aerodynamics and/or aeroacoustics , with familiarity in key adjacencies like aeromechanics
·           Experience across the methods spectrum – analytical, computational and experimental; specialization in one or more of: Advanced concept design, measurement technologies, and Computational methods (CFD, CAA)
·           Proven experience in leading teams in line management or technical leadership roles, preferably in global, multi-site organizations

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.  Must be able to travel approximately 15%.
