LOCATION: Kuala Lumpur - with regular and extensive travel within Malaysia

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 20 May 2011

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency in English and Malaysian (speaking, writing and reading)

TERM: 2 years with annual review and initial 6-month probation period

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  1. Collaborate with current TFT staff to develop strategies and work plans for advancing the production and availability of responsibly-produced palm oil in Malaysia.
  2. Map supply chains, evaluate plantations against Responsible Sourcing Guidelines (RSG) and RSPO principles,develop management and training recommendations for companies working toward RSG compliance and RSPO certification, etc.
  3. Meet regularly with TFT palm oil member representatives and their suppliers, monitor progress toward meeting RSGs, and provide technical support as required.
  4. Maintain supplier files for TFT members with complete information about key commitments made toward RSGs, work plans or agreements, etc.
  5. Monitor progress on work plans and commitments.
  6. Liaise with local organizations and consultants working on palm oil.
  7. Draft regular reports, meeting documentation and communications between TFT Asia and TFT’s head office in Switzerland as related to palm oil.
  8. Prepare workshops, seminars or other events to raise awareness and address supply chain concerns related to certified palm oil.
  9. Keep up-to-date on all advancements of requirements for RSPO certification and prepare internal and external communication pieces to ensure that all relevant TFT staff and members are kept appropriately informed.
  10. Support TFT activities for other products groups, in particular the wood group, and other countries, in particular Thailand and Indonesia, as required.


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in natural resource management, forestry, agriculture or related field.
  2. An advanced degree would be an advantage.
  3. Minimum five years professional work experience in natural resource management, preferably within the palm oil industry.
  4. Understand current issues relating to palm oil production and certification, especially certification under RSPO.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand technical, environmental and social requirements.Demonstrated ability to work with businesses on management, supply chain and certification issues.
  6. Excellent knowledge of MS Office programme.
  7. Proficiency in English and Malaysian (speaking, writing and reading).
  8. Ability to work independently and in a small team.
  9. Ability to prioritize and organize own work schedule.

Salary and benefits: to be agreed based on experience. The Malaysia Programme Officer will report to TFT’s, Senior Business Development and Programme Manager, Asia. Qualified female candidates are encouraged to apply.
