Description

DECC’s contribution to the 10% challenge is an 11% reduction in emissions from energy used in our London Headquarters (Whitehall Place) and our Aberdeen office (Atholl House) or approximately 130t of CO2 savings by May 2011. For the period 14 May 2010 to 28 February 2011, DECC’s emissions were 15.63% lower than in the same period in 2009. This puts us on track to meet our 11% target.

Like every department, DECC has submitted plans to deliver its share of the pan-Government 10% target to the Efficiency and Reform Group in the Cabinet Office. Most of the measures that will make a contribution to this target havge already been taken, for example the installation of a new chiller to provide less energy intensive cooling to our on-site IT servers, and making sure the air conditioning system in our meeting rooms only operates when they are in use. Further plans include additional LED lighting to be installed in March.

There is also an important element of engaging the users of our buildings to drive energy and emissions reductions. More information about our intentions and how we evaluate the success of the measures we take can be found on 'How DECC will deliver energy use reductions by May 2011'.
