Title:                           Major Gifts Associate – Development Division

Reports to:                 Major Gifts Manager – Development Division

Location:                    New York,NY

The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.

 

Position Summary:

The Major Gifts Associate will support the Major Gifts division in all areas relating to the major gifts program including research, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and acknowledgement of gifts from individuals.  S/he will manage prospect research and maintain prospect strategies for both Major Gifts and the Rainforest Alliance Leapfrog Campaign in our database system.  The Major Gifts Associate will also be responsible for maintaining our on-line email and solicitation service and will assist with regular budgeting and financial tracking procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage research tasks for Major Gifts department including Campaign-related tasks; oversee creation of profiles of major donors/prospects utilizing a variety of online and print resources;
  • Maintain major gift strategy tracking in electronic database;
  • Maintain tracking system for high-capacity, non-donor prospects;
  • Manage on-line email and solicitation service;
  • Assist in organizing cultivation events and trips including coordinating logistics, creating invitation lists, mailing of invitations and recording RSVPs;
  • Support Manager with quarterly financial reporting and budgeting;
  • Use electronic donor database to create lists and reports, as required;
  • Develop written materials, including drafting and proofreading reports, proposals, cover letters, stewardship pieces, invitations and other written materials as needed;
  • Coordinate and create materials as needed for prospective donors, including talking points, meeting packets and presentations;
  • Call donor and non-donor prospects to schedule meetings and follow-up on invites and mailings; and
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • 3-5 years experience in non-profit or administrative setting; experience with fundraising and major gifts a plus;
  • Must have excellent writing and verbal communications skills;
  • Spanish-language speaker strongly preferred;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; familiarity with conducting internet research and comfort working with database programs; knowledge of PowerPoint and Raiser’s Edge donor tracking software a plus;
  • Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently and on deadline, be creative, take initiative and be attentive to detail; and
  • Dependability, diplomacy, good organizational skills and a sense of humor necessary.
