Working with the TNC Operating Unit State Directors (MS, LA, AR), Ducks Unlimited and Wildlife Mississippi (Advisory Committee) the Program Director will develop and manage a coalition of public/private conservation stakeholders to; 1) develop a long term commitment of organizations, landowners and other stakeholders to speak knowledgeably and consistently on the reforestation needs in the Lower Delta region 2) identify the successes, challenges and recommendations to the existing national reforestation program(s) that would enhance their conservation effectiveness 3) development of materials highlighting the multiple benefits of a strong national reforestation program in addition to the above issues 4) a more effective partnership with agencies implementing national reforestation programs to improve reforestation implementation, all resulting in more acres enrolled in reforestation and associated hydrologic restoration within the project area. S/he provides strategic leadership and support for the Conservancy’s conservation planning work and establishes overall conservation priorities for the project. S/he serves as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and academic community including participating on the Great Rivers Partnership and Farm Bill Core Team conference calls and other important forums as identified. S/he may play a leading role in donor identification, cultivation and stewardship for the program in close coordination with the state operating unit fundraising staff. Disseminates best practices, provides training and analyses to best implement organizational measures of success, and develops key partnerships. Working with Advisory Committee, research, analyze, evaluate and prepare recommendations and proposals on state and federal public policy issues, policy options and the potential impacts of proposed legislation, proposed rulemaking efforts, and changes in agency policies. Build and maintain productive relationships and open communication with Congressional delegation and staff, and key federal, state and local public officials.
