Description

Additional salary supplement may be agreed depending on skills, experience and qualifications.
37 hours per week.

Folkestone & Hythe is a vibrant, connected and energetic district situated on Kent’s south coast and under an hour away from London via High Speed rail. We are supportive of remote and home working, have a flexible working culture, corporate membership and reward schemes, Employee Assistance Programme, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

The Council declared a climate emergency in 2019, and committed to reducing its own estate and operations to net zero carbon by 2030.  We have taken the initial steps towards this with a base line study, a cross party working group and the preparation of a Carbon Action Plan which will be considered by our members next month.

Our agenda is ambitious both in terms of our net carbon aspirations and our wider corporate plan.  Therefore we are now looking to recruit a senior specialist to support this interesting agenda.

The role will be responsible for project managing the Council’s climate change and carbon reduction initiatives to ensure that the objectives of the Council’s Carbon Action Plan are met and the Council meets its target of net zero emissions by 2030.  They will be able to provide expert advice to officers, members and stakeholders on climate change and carbon reduction issues and mitigation measures.  And critically will have the interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders to secure funding for climate change projects, deliver district-wide carbon reduction initiatives, raise awareness of climate change issues and secure behavioural changes to reduce emissions.
