Climate change is now widely accepted as the largest long-term environmental problem facing humanity and its major cause is carbon dioxide emissions from energy use. A not-for-profit organisation formed in 1992, we've rapidly become a leading figure in the fight to address climate change. Our aim is to promote sustainable energy, while reducing consumption and carbon emissions in the domestic and transport sectors throughout the UK.

Low Carbon Development Officer

Circa £35,000 depending on experience + excellent benefits

Location, Wales – 12 month fixed term contract

The purpose of this post is to:

  • Support the Welsh Assembly Government’s objective of increasing the number of Welsh businesses which are certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and other standards
  • Increase awareness of the need for MCS certification as the quality standard for consumers wishing to install microgeneration technologies.
  • Build networks and disseminate best practice amongst the Welsh microgeneration industry, particularly installers and manufacturers of microgeneration.

The main responsibilities for this post will be:

  • To provide practical advice and support to businesses in Wales intending to apply for MCS certification leading to an increased number of MCS certified installers and manufacturers.
  • To develop an understanding of, and network of contacts amongst, existing business support services, in order to maximize use of existing business support.
  • To develop and facilitate appropriate forums or networks for small scale renewable energy businesses to share best practice and information, developing the supply chain.
  • To Identify potential diversifying companies and provide them with information and support to encourage MCS certification.
  • To promote Welsh Assembly Government, Carbon Trust, Energy Saving Trust and other services relating to sector development activities, including the delivery of presentations.

To be successful in this post, you will have:

  • Knowledge of support available to businesses and experience in helping them access it.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering quality assurance processes.
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of renewable industry or energy efficiency industry.
  • Demonstrable experience of business development.
