Main responsibilities

1. – Logistic Coordination

  • Coordinate and ensure execution of non-violent direct actions or other forms of visual activities against strategic targets in order to achieve the campaign objectives as defined by the campaign.
  • To participate in the development of the campaign strategies and in particular to ensure that confrontational actions are included as a key tactic in the campaign strategies.
  • To ensure with the campaigner the appropriateness of targets, campaign relevance, quality of research, planning, execution and evaluation of all GP direct actions.
  • To participate in the regular evaluation, review and development of campaign strategies.
  • To help develop innovative actions together with the campaigner, taking in account the local culture and tradition of protesting.
  • Develop Rapid Response Protocol with AVUH and to confirm the building of Rapid Response teams with the volunteers´ coordinator.
  • Responsible to ensure the implementation of Best Practices for Security of information in Lebanon.

2. - Volunteer Coordination

  • Gather best practices for volunteer work and promote them in Lebanon.
  • Responsible for implement a volunteer working structure (established by AVUH) that includes a framework between teams. The post also includes training and supervising the staff members to increase their capacity to work with volunteers.
  • Responsible for recruiting, training and supervising volunteers. This includes implement a new volunteer recruitment and orientation system with relevant training kits. Build up a plan for “volunteer exchange” among offices.
  • Responsible for any GP volunteers’ activity and project developed in Lebanon. This include planning process, implementation, follow up and evaluation.
  • Organize national volunteers’ skill shares (or camps). Actively participate and be involved in the international GP Volunteers Coordinator community.

3. - Team membership

  • Work and communicate openly, effectively and co-operatively with all other team members.
  • Adhere to individual project deadlines and manage personal workload.
  • Respond to challenges, explore new ideas and take initiative in all aspects of teamwork.
  • Take full responsibilities for the completion of tasks as designated the AVUH.
  • Work closely with all Program Department stuff to maintain team and volunteer spirit.

4. - Activists and equipment

  • To make sure the volunteers are involved and in direct actions.
  • Supervise the Development and the maintaining of a network of highly skilled people with specialist skills who are not GP staff but who are ready to carry out technical aspects of GP direct actions (direct responsibility of the volunteers coordinator).
  • Responsible to select, recommend, purchase and maintain the necessary/basic action equipment and to ensure that the storage facility/warehouse is in good condition and organized.
  • Responsible to keep an updated and organized Volunteers Database.

5. - Training

  • To ensure that all volunteers and/or staff taking part in GP direct actions have been fully trained for whatever role they are being required to fulfill within the action together with volunteers coordinator.
  • Devise and organize trainings for activists under the Annual training plan proposed by AVUH, including special training schemes for activist with special technical skills if required.
  • To ensure that the volunteer the activists participating in actions comply with the highest health and safety standards possible.
  • Maintain and update personal skills and knowledge to make sure that efficient and professional actions can be delivered.

6. - Administration and finance

  • Be responsible for own filing systems, maintain efficient records of new and special equipment/techniques, stores, manufactures and renting companies and generally be self-servicing.
  • Take responsibility for aspects of the campaign budgets as delegated for direct actions by the campaigners and the AVUH.
  • Operate at all times with regard to total confidentiality.
  • 7. - Assistant to Regional Actions and Volunteer Unit Head

    • Keep an overview of the volunteer network throughout the region where Greenpeace Mediterranean operates and report it to the Actions and Volunteers Unit Head.
    • Together with other office staff and the Logistics and Volunteers Unit Head implement and improve the new ‘Guidelines for staff – Working with Volunteers’ and keep an accurate record of assistance from volunteers to GP Med staff.

    Skills required / qualifications

    • Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English.
    • Proficiency in computer use, including database, spreadsheet and word processing.
    • Experience in working with local groups or grassroots organizations.
    • Experience in coordinating volunteers.
    • Experience in designing training programs and organizing trainings.
    • Good understanding of non violent direct action as well as strong knowledge of global environmental issues.
    • Motivation to achieve Greenpeace environmental campaign objectives.
    • Teambuilding skills.
    • Strategic thinking.
    • Self-confident, focused, pro-active and result oriented.
    • Highly stress resistance.
    • Flexible attitude to constantly shifting work priorities.
