Welwyn Hatfield Friends of the Earth inspires solutions to environmental problems, which make life better for people. Our voluntary group has a strong record of successfully campaigning on local and national environmental issues and we are currently seeking to revive the group’s campaigning activity.

To support this activity, we are looking for a Volunteer Co-ordinator to keep our campaigns running smoothly. You would work closely with other key group members through regular meetings, phone calls and email. • Assisting with organising and attending monthly meetings.
• A key contact for the group with Friends of the Earth HQ, the public and media.
• Passing information and queries from the media or public on to the right people in the group.
• Also acting as the group’s point of contact for Friends of the Earth staff.
• Assisting the group in developing ways of attracting new members, and encouraging them to get involved in campaigning and other group activities.
• Ensuring the group has goals and stays focused on them.
• Promoting communication and planning, and to help create a group environment that is inclusive and rewarding.
• Passing on key information on to the group at meetings and via mailing lists.
• Keeping the group’s website up to date using an easy-to-use system

Key skills or requirements:
• Organised
• Reliable
• Motivated and enthusiastic
• Good at delegating
• Friendly, open and approachable
• Good at communicating by all media (phone, in person, by letter or email)
• IT literate to a basic level – using internet, email, word processing
• Supportive of the Friends of the Earth agenda, and generally aware and concerned about environmental issues
• An ability to work evenings and weekends

This is a challenging, interesting and potentially fun role; which should take approximately four hours per week (unpaid) and will make a massive difference to our ability to campaign effectively for the environment.
It is an unpaid post, but agreed expenses pertaining to work for the group will be refunded. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and skills, meet like-minded people, and learn more about environmental issues.
