ICLEI–Local Governments for Sustainability is an international association of over 1220 local government Members, as well as national and regional local government organizations, who are committed to sustainable development. Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) is ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability’s flagship global biodiversity programme, run in partnership with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the global head office is hosted by the City of Cape Town. Local Action for Biodiversity provides technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of biodiversity management and good practice and sustainable development at the local level. Our focus is on locally designed initiatives that will provide an effective and cost-efficient way to achieve local, national, and global biodiversity and sustainability objectives. Requirements: A degree or B.Tech in the Environment (or equivalent) field, preferably at post-graduate level • a certificate/diploma in Project Management (advantageous) • 3 years relevant working experience • computer proficiency • capacity to communicate skillfully at a variety of levels • a valid Code B driver’s license • ability and willingness to travel extensively internationally • proficiency in French, Spanish and other languages (advantageous) • motivated and innovative and can work as part of a team, as well as independently. Key Performance Areas: Co-ordinating, facilitating and providing technical expertise to projects as part of a dynamic team • compiling and reviewing high-level biodiversity documents • conducting progressive research into biodiversity management good practice • making strategic input into the global Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) Programme • working with and guiding local authorities to enhance and improve biodiversity and ecosystem management at the local level through cutting edge and innovative solutions • participating in and representing ICLEI’s global biodiversity programmes at international events.
