Earthjustice’s Florida regional office is seeking a part-time Litigation Assistant to provide both substantive and administrative support to our legal staff.  Earthjustice is a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, and wildlife of this earth and to defending the right of all people to a healthy environment. The Florida regional office focuses principally on issues of water pollution, water law and climate change.  

Responsibilities:  The Litigation Assistant will assist the attorneys and Office Manager.  Tasks may include but not limited to the following:

  • Preparation, service, and filing of court documents, including electronic filings;
  • Organization and maintenance of case files and docket;
  • Preparation and review of discovery materials in evidentiary proceedings;
  • Case development, including factual and technical research and analysis;
  • Weekly summary of significant news items and state regulatory bulletins;
  • Creation of PowerPoint presentations;
  • Operations management (e.g., receiving packages, managing office supplies); and
  • General administrative assistance (answering phones, photocopying, proofreading, taking meeting minutes, scheduling, updating databases, communications with agencies and courts, clients, and counsel, monitoring court rules).

Qualifications: 

  • Excellent organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards. 
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills. 2 years of college preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of word processing, databases and spreadsheets, Internet
  • Ability to organize, set priorities among multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and function calmly under pressure.
