The California regional office of Earthjustice is seeking a litigation assistant/office manager to join its staff as soon as possible. This person will oversee the operation of the 16-person office and provide administrative support to attorneys.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include: (1) all office manager functions, such as bookkeeping (AR/AP, client billing, budget preparation), overseeing time reporting, supply/equipment (and kitchen) ordering and maintenance, recruitment coordination, confidential file maintenance, library management, meeting planning, coordinating with other Earthjustice departments, and general support functions; and (2) working with the office’s two full-time litigation assistants to perform litigation assistant functions, including formatting, proofreading, cite-checking, court and agency filings, understanding and following procedural court and agency rules, preparing standard pleadings, communicating with clients and courts, and responding to public inquiries.
Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree; experience in bookkeeping (familiarity with Sage MIP software a plus); excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite (familiarity with 2010 version strongly preferred); excellent command of spelling, punctuation, and grammar; excellent proofreading skills; strong written communication skills; detail-orientation; familiarity with court rules; and a commitment to protecting the environment. The skill to multitask and prioritize work quickly under deadline pressure while maintaining accuracy is essential, as are flexibility and the ability to see the forest and the trees.
Salary is based on a non-profit scale, is commensurate with experience, and includes a generous benefits package. Our office is relocating to San Francisco in early spring, near excellent public transit.
