Chevron Policy Government & Public Affairs is accepting online applications for the position of Legislative Regulatory Analyst (Global Climate Change) located in San Ramon, CA through November 21, 2008.

Overview:

This position works with the Fuels and Climate Change Coordinator and representatives from Chevron operating companies to develop company positions and advocacy strategy. Provides coordination and management of priority legislative/regulatory advocacy issues. The primary focus will be on global climate change issues but will work on other business issues as needed. Manages corporate-wide issue teams, issue strategies, priorities, budgets and related communications.
Position Details: Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

• Coordinates development of company positions on legislative and regulatory issues that impact various operational and business practices of the operating companies and corporation.
• Maintains a working knowledge of issues, develops company positions on public policy proposals, and negotiates with stakeholders of diverse interests.
• Participates in the development of advocacy strategy, arguments and materials in support of the company positions.
• Develops contacts with and advocates company positions on issues before legislators, regulators, trade associations and governmental organizations and third parties.
• Develops legislative/regulatory proposals and initiatives to further the company’s business plans and strategies.
• Responds to inquiries from government officials and others regarding company positions on issues.
• Evaluates economic impacts of government climate change policies, including carbon markets and trading mechanisms.
• Represents Chevron to a variety of industry trade groups. Provides leadership and subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
• Establishes effective public policy positions on key legislative and regulatory issues impacting the company.
• Conducts special research projects on major issues affecting the company and operating units.
• Fosters excellent working relationships with internal and external customers.

Required (Basic Qualifications:

• Experience in advocacy or public policy background and fundamental knowledge of the legislative/regulatory process.
• Demonstrated experience or background in global climate change, carbon markets, trading mechanisms and economic evaluation.
• Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to motivate and lead internal and external multi-stakeholder groups to achieve desired results. Ability to build and promote teamwork and work with all levels in the organization.
• Strategic thinking – demonstrated ability to analyze and address complex issues and approaches. Anticipates and manages change.
• Strong communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate (written and oral) complex issues to a variety of audiences. An open and constructive negotiator with the ability to describe complex concepts to a non-technical audience.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, be results oriented, a self-starter, and work with minimal supervision in a quickly changing, unstructured environment. Ability to work effectively under deadlines and execute multiple requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in business or technical disciplines.

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
