Description

Right now, there is huge momentum behind the changing landscape of education and learning, with new ventures, offers, schools and approaches springing up locally and globally. Now is the time to be part of this wave, enabled by technology and other global trends, which provides us an opportunity to re-imagine everything, from the purpose of learning through to its delivery.

Change is a foot.  At Forum it is time to reinvent our learning offer.

1          Role Summary

We’re looking for a learning experience design intern. A creative engine, well-versed in design thinking, and radically inspired by the potential in taking a design-led approach to the creation and implementation of education, in all its guises. This is a unique role and an excellent opportunity, which will give the successful candidate the opportunity to gain practical experience in the planning, design, development and implementation of innovative product/service experiences for learning. We’re looking for a doer, someone for whom the value of a great idea is in making it happen.

Your role will be based in the system innovation lab, where we experiment and learn, ensuring we remain at the forefront of sustainability. You’ll have the opportunity to understand how we operate, how we work with the rest of Forum and how learning fits into this. You’ll learn the ways of a systems thinker and understand how this can complement your design experience, setting you up for whatever you do next.

If you’re interested in the role design and innovation can play in creating a sustainable future – and if you’re doubly fascinated by the role of learning experiences - then this is the opportunity for you.

The role will be based at our UK office in London, lasting three months from June 2015 to August 2015.

2          Person Specification

You will need to be:

  • Excited by sustainable development, systems thinking or innovation.
  • Fascinated by learning experiences and the potential of education to drive positive change. You are excited by how new cultures and technologies help people learn, communicate, interact, and behave differently.
  • Familiar with a range of design research methods, from in-person interviews and focus groups, to online ethnography and remote user studies. You are creative in your approach to drawing insights and do not always follow the well-trodden route.
  • A great storyteller, whether presenting, creating visual communication or using digital platforms to spread ideas.
  • An iterative design thinker and prototyper, with the software, digital and other skills to match.
  • Able to take a pro-active and entrepreneurial attitude, but also to follow instructions and support a wider team.
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Committed to the values and mission of Forum for the Future.

3          Benefits of the Internship

The intern will gain and/or further develop:

  • Experience being part of an innovation team at the cutting edge of experimental projects and collaborations, pushing the approaches taken to sustainability challenges.
  • A unique opportunity to apply design within the field of learning experience.
  • The broad skillset necessary to develop, implement and sell a new idea.
  • Research skills in a professional setting, an understanding of how research can provide a foundation for success.
  • Knowledge and experience of system innovation and how to create change in systems, in particular through the education of change-agents.
  • Wider knowledge and experience relating to Forum for the Future’s mission, through access to our resources, expertise, experience and learning opportunities.

4          Internship details

This internship is three to five days a week for three months. The internship is unpaid, with lunch expenses up to £5 a day and travel within London Zone 1-6 reimbursed.

To apply, please send your CV with a covering letter explaining how you meet the requirements and why you would like to join the System Innovation Lab, a design portfolio, together with an equal opportunities form to Sophie Kennedy, HR Assistant, by email to recruitment@forumforthefuture.org or by post to Forum for the Future, London EC1V 3QN.
