Work with our dedicated team who manage the nationally important habitats in the Lee Valley.

Who we are

The award winning Lee Valley Regional Park stretches an incredible 26 miles along the leafy banks of the River Lee, from Ware in Hertfordshire, through Essex, to the Thames at East India Dock Basin. The park provides a unique 'natural' corridor on London’s doorstep and a vital refuge for wildlife. It contains a variety of landscapes and open spaces to enjoy, including the internationally important wetland sites that form the Lee Valley Special Protection Area and Ramsar site, Sites of Special Scientific Interest, industrial heritage sites and nature reserves.

The open spaces team

Our Rangers and Assistant Rangers are not only the guardians of the park on the ground but they are its eyes and ears too. One large team split over two different locations they look after an array of different habitats from wetland wonders to urban oases covering parts of the Lee Valley SPA and Ramsar Site, four SSSIs, and numerous locally designated wildlife sites. With an abundance of practical works, wildlife surveys, volunteering task, visitor interaction and park promotion to undertake each year there are many opportunities to develop the conservation value and engagement with sites throughout the park but also many opportunities for personal development as an individual.

What does the role look like?

Reporting directly to the Ranger Service Manager(s) and working with both the Assistant Rangers and our conservation volunteers you will be directly responsible for the practical management of a number of key nature conservation and public access sites, ensuring that their management plans are followed, are clear and up to date and will have a direct input in to their development. You will play a key part in the retention of awards such as Green Flag and London in Bloom. You will work closely with colleagues across the Authority including amongst others, the Biodiversity Team to assist in delivering the Authorities BAP targets and Communications Team in the promotion of sites across the park. You will also liaise with external partners such as our Health and Safety consultants and our park security team to ensure the safety of all and adherence to Park byelaws.

What attributes we are looking for in a candidate:

  • An enthusiastic and flexible countryside professional with proven experience of working in a variety of parks/countryside environments along with a good working knowledge of conservation and habitat management

  • A recognised post-A level qualification e.g. HND; NVQ level 3, degree or equivalent in a countryside management or related discipline.
  • Experience of working with volunteers and community engagement activities.
