Chemonics seeks a leader for educational development and outreach activities for the anticipated USAID-funded People, Rules, and Organizations Supporting the Protection of Ecosystem Resources (PROSPER) program in Liberia. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. The Liberia PROSPER program will seek to achieve three objectives:

  1. Expand educational and institutional capacity to improve environmental awareness, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and environmental compliance;
  2. Enhance community-based forest management that embraces sustainable practices and reduces threats to biodiversity;
  3. Increase community-based livelihoods derived from sustainable forest-based and agriculture-based enterprises

Responsibilities include: serving as the technical expert for educational development and program outreach, supervising all activities in these areas, and acting as the principal liaison between educational and outreach counterparts, including the FDA, FTI, MOE, EPAL, MOA, USAID/Liberia, and all other public and private sector counterparts, implementing partners, and other donors.

Position qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in educational development, particularly curriculum development, preferably in natural resources management
  • Ten years or more of progressively responsible work experience in developing vocational school curricula and training materials in support of environmental and natural resource protection and management, preferably in Africa
  • Four years of substantial managerial experience with international development programs, including managing local professional program staff
  • Experience working with education ministries and other agencies of government preferably engaged in environmental and natural resource education
  • Experience with public outreach programs is preferred
  • Experience in primary school curriculum development desirable
  • Experience in educational policy development to support environmental education desirable
  • Experience with relevant programs desirable
