Major Function

Develops and executes strategies with Development and Program staff to substantially grow a multi-tiered regional major gift program. Sets and achieves contributed revenue goals from a prospect portfolio of 100-150, strengthens regional presence for World Wildlife Fund, and creates networks of volunteers and other community leaders. Initiates and coordinates strategic regional fundraising activities by working with Board, National Council, regional volunteers, regional committees, and other major gift donors and prospects.

 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develops and executes aggressive regional fundraising growth strategies for the region. Works closely with members, annual partners, volunteers, partner institutions, National Council, and key staff to create a presence for WWF in the region that fosters significant contributed revenue growth, a sense of community and camaraderie among WWF supporters, and raises visibility for WWF.
  2. Manages a pool of 100- 150 individuals of which 25 to 40 are active six-figure prospects to help meet the annually set fundraising goal from Major Donors in the region. Creates and implements strategies. Conducts exploratory meetings to qualify prospects, conducts frequent donor calls to cultivate prospects. Meets with these donors, alone or with volunteers, Executive, development, or program staff. Coordinates donor visits and develops strategies, as appropriate, for other staff members and volunteers. Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with donors in the region and communicates regularly by mail and phone. Asks for and closes gifts of $25,000+, manages donors and prospects with capability of gifts of $100,000 or more over three years, and negotiates complex gift agreements.
  3. Works and travels with program staff to plan and conduct visits, presentations, and events. Produces proposals, reports and other cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship materials as needed.
  4. Creates and assists in coordination of small gatherings, large events and other fundraising activities with regional volunteers to meet regional revenue goals, attract new supporters, and raise visibility for WWF.
  5. Monitors donor revenues and ensures all donors within assigned regions are solicited for annual and multi-year campaign commitments so that budgetary goals are met. Assists Director to assess results and project future goals and activities.
  6. Serves as a liaison between the development department and program vice presidents, and senior staff for purposes of coordinating fundraising activities in region.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

III. Working Relationships

  1. Internal: Interacts regularly and is interdependent with other development staff, as well as with program staff, Senior Vice President for Development and the CEO’s office.
  2. External: Personal contact with major and planned gift donors/prospects and key volunteers, including regional committees. As appropriate, contact with corporate donors and prospects. Interacts with professional colleagues and other experts in the fields of philanthropy and advancement.

V. Minimum Requirements

  1. Education/Experience: A Bachelor's degree and knowledge of development techniques are required. Knowledge of conservation issues is strongly preferred. At least eight years of development experience with a minimum of four years of individual major gift fundraising is required. A successful track record of work with key volunteers is extremely helpful.

  • Excellent writing, speaking, and organizational skills are required.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, set priorities, and work within deadlines is required.
  • Must be flexible, responsible, and able to balance a variety of activities, working as an effective member of a team with a sense of collegiality and respect.
