Description

Original Volunteers have been sending people to help in developing countries on projects for over 10 years. They are currently looking to expand their team with a long stay volunteer/intern to develop a tree planting and conservation awareness programme in Eastern Ghana.

Tree planting programmes have run successfully in Ghana since 2014, volunteer numbers and funding permitted.

Original Volunteers hope to extend these tree planting programmes to a year-round project. Including educational workshops for both volunteers and at local schools that involve awareness on surrounding environmental issues, such as deforestation and the effect this has on local communities.

The local team currently run community programmes but lack a background in conservation and will require some support.

The ideal Candidate is:

  • a self-starter with a positive attitude
  • someone looking to help lead and develop their own project
  • passionate about conservation
  • able to dedicate a 6-month commitment to the project.
  • quick thinking and work with little to zero resources
  • resourceful and uses donations carefully.
  • able to source free materials locally.

Funding for the grass roots project is extremely limited, restrained to what the volunteers bring as donations. Transport to most locations can be provided by the local support team. Free accommodation is provided for all leaders, in a clean, modern volunteer house.

A small allowance may be possible when volunteer numbers are higher, if no allowance is available, daily spending is expected to be in the region of £4/$7 a day.

Applications are open now until January 10th for a start date in April.

Anyone interested in this exciting opportunity to head up your own project should send their CV and a covering letter to Sarah Garcia at contact@originalvolunteers.co.uk
