The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland. THE ROLE Rising to the many challenges facing woods and trees, the Site Manager will primarily manage Langley Vale wood and a a number of Woodland Trust sites in line with our conservation principals and woodland management approach. Diverse and fascinating, Langley Vale Wood has pockets of ancient woodland, and stunning views over the rolling hills of the North Downs. In the coming years, our ambitious woodland creation scheme will transform the existing arable land into a naturally restored haven. The Site Manager will be responsible for managing the site alongside effective delivery of the project at Langley Vale Wood, which includes working with and managing contractors and volunteers, engaging with stakeholders, hosting events and development of visitor facilities. The Site Manager will work collaboratively, building effective relationships with internal teams, external partners, neighbours and interested parties, alongside managing a group of dedicated and passionate volunteers. THE CANDIDATE You will need previous experience of working in the forestry or conservation sector in a land based role. Specifically you’ll need experience of working with and managing countryside contracts and contractors, volunteer schemes, project management and engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders, user groups, volunteers, visitors and neighbours. Ideally you will have a relevant qualification to support your experience. With a positive and results focussed approach you’ll be determined to seek successful outcomes from every scenario. You’ll be able to work and communicate with others internal teams and external organisations effectively, build strong and effective relationships, be commercially aware and flexible to changing demands. You’ll be organised and thorough and have high standards and expectations for the works you manage. A full driving licence or the ability to undertake travel across a wide area, sometimes to remote locations is a must. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust.
