The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit national environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.3 million members and online activists. With offices in New York, Washington, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Beijing, our staff of nearly 400 lawyers, scientists, policy analysts and others works to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education. NRDC uses law, science, and the support of more than 1.3 million members and activists nationwide to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. The Washington DC office spearheads NRDC’s national advocacy efforts. Spring 2012 Land & Wildlife Internship NRDC’s Land and Wildlife Program is accepting applications for an unpaid spring semester internship position beginning in March 2012 through May, 2012, and may be continued for the summer. The Land and Wildlife intern works directly with NRDC Land and Wildlife program staff to complete various projects and research activities aimed at protecting sensitive lands from harmful oil and gas operations, advancing public policies and NRDC goals to require more environmental protections for oil and gas operations, and promoting clean and renewable energy solutions. Additional duties may include engaging with relevant federal agency processes, interfacing with the public on specific natural resource issues, and managing information and data sets relevant to ongoing NRDC Lands and Wildlife projects. Candidates for this internship should exhibit strong writing and communications skills, an ability to be self-directed, and strong initiative when researching open-ended or complex oil and gas projects. Internship candidates also must be able to proofread advocacy documents, attend briefings and hearings on timely environmental issues, and work with coalitions of national environmental organizations, as well as other duties that may arise in this active work environment. Interning at NRDC’s Washington, DC office offers unique exposure to the policy process at an organization with a long track record of successful participation in natural resources policy. Candidates for this internship should be an advanced undergraduate or graduate student and be available to work at least four days per week.
