Description

Global Generation is looking for a Kitchen Intern

Are you interested in cooking, urban agriculture  and working with young people to help them play a part in creating a sustainable future?

Global Generation is a charity based in King’s Cross that works with young people to create positive change within themselves, in their communities, and for the planet. We have ‘greened’ the King’s Cross redevelopment site by growing food in skips and on the top of office buildings, and by keeping bees and building a community of ‘doers’ in the local area. In addition to our skips, we have also transformed a portacabin into a kitchen. In this kitchen, Global Generation cooks the food grown on site with - and for - young people and local businesses. The cooking of meals is an important income earner which allows Global Generation to reinvest the money into our projects with young people. More recently we opened the Skip Garden Cafe on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and first Saturday of the month.

Global Generation seeks a Kitchen Intern to support our Executive Chef and Junior Chef. The Kitchen Intern will work alongside the chefs, young people and volunteers in the preparation and serving of food for an exciting variety of events. The Kitchen Intern will also be expected to help with all aspects of running the kitchen - the ordering and organising of stock, the cleaning of the kitchen, and ensuring that health, safety and hygiene rules are adhered to. Other activities may include:

  • Representing Global Generation with fantastic customer service

  • Taking sole responsibility for certain meals after building up your cooking confidence

  • Joining the Global Generation team on a camping trip to Pertwood Organic Farm, where young Londoners get to experience the countryside.

The successful candidate would need to:

  • Be enthusiastic about cooking good quality sustainable, vegetarian food

  • Enjoy working with young people

  • Share the values of Global Generation

  • Be motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team

  • You must be flexible, and have a great working attitude.

This is a wonderful opportunity to build ethical catering skills. Please visit

Time Commitment: Ideally you will be happy to work with us three days per week (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) for a minimum of three months and up to six months.  Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Expenses: We will pay you £10 per day to cover your travel expenses and we will always give you a home cooked lunch to have with the rest of the team

Start Date: Wednesday 12th February

How to Apply: Please email your CV and a cover letter of no more than one side of A4 by 9am on Thursday 30th January. The cover letter should outline why you are interested in and suited to the role of Kitchen Intern at Global Generation. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 5th February.
