Description

The Kankakee Sands Steward participates in preserve operations including the maintenance, management and development and coordination of conservation programs.  This position focuses on implementation of conservation management at Kankakee Sands and the maintenance of equipment and buildings at Kankakee Sands.  This may include one or more of the following functions:

  • Leads work teams
  • Implements  preserve management plans
  • Maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public
  • Removes invasive species and/or monitors & researches species
  • Participates in prescribed fires
  • Oversees and is primarily responsible for equipment and building maintenance on the Kankakee Sands site
  • Operates heavy machinery
  • Occasionally assists other stewards in Northwest Indiana implement priority management activities
