The Junior Technical Assistant (JTA) reports directly to the Regional Director (RD) for the IUCN Central and West Africa Programme to whom he/she provides support in technical aspects of his work. To be efficient in his/her work the incumbent will require excellent multicultural communication skills and an overview of IUCN work in the Region.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will de expected to:

• Analyze documents for wording and comprehension, highlighting such issues as lack of clarity and coherence, typos, etc.

• Comment, synthesize and/or and summarize documents

• Collect, analyze and summarize information, as requested by the RD.

• Prepare paper or PowerPoint presentations when needed

• Provide general support for the entire Regional Coordination team where needed.

• Other duties as may be required.

REQUIREMENTS


• Eligible candidates

• Higher level education (minimum 5 years) in an area of direct interest to IUCN work : conservation, agriculture, biological sciences, environmental economics, environmental law, etc.; other training areas may be considered as long as the candidate has acceptable competencies for the tasks described above;

• Total nine (or more) months of work experience as intern in at least two different institutions;

• Have a good command of French or English, with working capacity in the other language;

• Ability to deal tactfully with sensitive or confidential issues and information;

• Be computer literate with proven knowledge of software (word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and Internet);

• Be able to summarize data in the form of tables and graphs

• Be hard working and able to work under pressure

• Be smart, honest, trustworthy and a good communicator.

Non eligible candidates:

• This is a professionalizing internship meant for young fellows without formal/contractual work experience; it is not for candidates who have already had regular work experience (having had a work contract longer than 1 full year)

• Candidates lacking capacity to be on time for work or meetings, meet deadlines, pay attention to detail.
