Description

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage three (03) Junior Research Fellows through a Walk-in-Interview on Tuesday, 19th January 2010. Duration: Four years.

Essential Qualification

Masters Degree in M.Sc. in Wildlife Science/Wildlife Biology/Botany/Zoology/ Forestry/Ecology/Environment Management/Life Science/Environmental Science or M.V.Sc. from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.

Desirable Qualification

Prior experience in (a) Radio-tracking of wild animals, (b) Application of Remote Sensing and GIS, and (c) Occupancy and population estimation methods using Distance Sampling procedure and Camera Traps, etc..

Description of Work

The Research Fellows will be required to stay in field for long durations for data collection and monitoring of animals through various methodologies.

The project aims at (A) studying reproductive success and population dynamics of introduced tiger population; B) Landscape ecology of tiger (including surrounding matrix), by estimating occupancy pattern and ecological correlates by conventional and GIS based spatial analysis. This would also involve socio-economic analysis of people, and human-wildlife interface issues, by questionnaire survey and data collection; (C) Understanding the population responses of co-predator and prey population by mark-recapture (by camera trap) and distance sampling (line transect) methods respectively

GENERAL:

  1. Candidate for the position of JRF shall not be more than 28 years as on 15th January 2010. Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates  belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

  2. Selected candidate(s) for the award Junior Research Fellowship will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- per month as fellowship.   

  3. The research fellows may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.

  4. Engagement on the above positions will be purely on a temporary basis for a period of four years and may be extended for further period depending upon the requirement and the tenure of project.

  5. The selection of the candidates will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Tuesday, 19th January 2010 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun and the registrations will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards.  

  6. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.

  7. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

  8. Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be liable to rejection. 

  9. One way travel expense (from place of stay/residence to WII, Dehra Dun) will be paid to the candidates, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route.

  10. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.

  12. The Director, WII reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason.
