Causes of avian diversity gradients along the Himalayas.

 

(02 – Junior Research Fellows)

Duration: Three years

Essential Qualification

JRF (Field Study): Masters’ Degree in Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/ Experimental Biology/Environmental Sciences/ Biological Sciences/Wildlife Science or any subject relevant to Wildlife Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

 

JRF (Genetics Work): Masters’ Degree in Life Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

JRF (Field Study): The researcher should have decent skills in bird identification and some knowledge of their vocalizations also. His/her familiarity with birds of Himalayas would be an added qualification. He/she should be ready to spend considerably long stretches of time in difficult conditions in the remote forests of Himalayas.

 

JRF (Genetics Work): The researcher should have skill in collection of biological samples and genetic analysis including DNA extraction, PCR and DNA sequencing. He/she would be required to travel to remote and difficult places in Himalayas for collection of biological samples.

Description of Work

JRF (Field Study): The task in the field would primarily involve collecting bird and vegetation data, analyzing it and writing reports etc under the supervision of the PIs the details of which are as under:

Birds – To conduct census of forest birds, make behavioral observations on them, use mist nets to trap birds and collect biological samples.

Vegetation – To quantify vegetation structure and composition parameters including plant species diversity and foliage height diversity through measurements in vegetation plots.

Analysis and report writing – To manage and analyse data and write reports.

 

JRF (Genetics Work): To collect and analyze biological samples from field for genetic study including DNA extraction, PCR and DNA sequencing and writing reports etc under the supervision of the PI(s).

GENERALTERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. Candidate(s) possessing Master’s Degree along with final year mark-sheet will be eligible to appear for the walk-in-interview. Candidates appearing in the final year of Masters’ Degree Program will not be eligible to apply for the advertised positions.

  2. A candidate may be allowed to submit duly filled-in application form(s) for a maximum of two advertised positions subject to his/her fulfilling the essential qualifications for the advertised positions. Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be rejected.  

  3. Age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for JRF; 30 years for Project Biologist and 32 yearsfor SRF as on Monday, 5th August 2013. Upper age limit for SRF, JRF may be relaxed up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

  4. Candidate for the position of Research Associate (RA) should be below 40 years of age as on Monday, 5thAugust 2013 and the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.

  5. The fellowship amount for the selected Research Associate (RA-I) will be ` 22,000/- consolidated per month.

  6. The fellowship amount for the selected Senior Research Fellow is Rs. 14,000/- consolidated per month and Rs. 18,000/- in case of NET qualified candidate(s) for Research Fellows (UGC/CSIR).

  7. Selected candidate(s) for the advertised position of JRF will be paid a consolidated emolument of Rs. 12,000/- per month as fellowship. In case of NET qualified candidates (UGC/CSIR) for Research Fellows, the selected JRF will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 16,000/- per month.

  8. The fellowship amount for the selected Project Biologist is Rs. 16,000/- consolidated per month.

  9. Selected candidate(s) will be engaged initially for a period mentioned against each advertised position. Subsequently his/her tenure may be extended depending upon the exigencies of work at sole discretion of the Institute and satisfactory performance of the candidate.

  10. Candidate(s) may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.

  11. The selection of the candidate(s) will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Wednesday, 7th August 2013 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The registration will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards.

  12. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.

  13. Candidate(s) should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinationsAll original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

  14. One way travel expenses will be paid to the candidate, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.

  15. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
