Project Title, details of position and duration

Status survey and conservation of Himalayan Crocodile Salamander(Tylototriton verrucosus) in the Eastern Himalayas.

(01 SRF and 01 JRF)

Duration: Two Years.

Essential Qualification

SRF: Masters degree in Wildlife Science/Wildlife Biology/Zoology/Life Sciences/Forestry/Environmental Science with 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University and minimum of two years of research experience in the field.

Desirable Qualification

Interest in herpetology; exposure to wilderness areas in India.

Description of Work

Field surveys for the Himalayan salamander in remote areas in the north east; survey designing and execution; data analyses for occupancy surveys; niche-modeling and preparing reports/manuscripts for publication.

Essential Qualification

JRF: Masters degree in Wildlife Science/Wildlife Biology/Zoology/Life Sciences/Forestry/Environmental Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification

Interest and professional skills in herpetology; knowledge of GIS applications; exposure to wilderness areas in the north east of India.

Field surveys for the Himalayan salamander in remote areas in the north east; execution of occupancy surveys; niche-modeling and preparing reports/manuscripts for publication.

GENERALTERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. The age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised position of JRF and TA and 32 years for SRF as on Wednesday, 17th March 2012 for the advertised position ofSRF. Upper age limit for SRF/JRF/TA may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates  belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

  2. The age of the candidate shall not be more than 30 years as on Wednesday, 17th March 2012for the advertised position of Research Biologist. The upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and women categories.

  3. Selected candidate for the position of Junior Research Fellow will be paid a consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- per month. In case of NET qualified candidates (UGC/CSIR) for Research Fellows, the selected JRF will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 16,000/- per month and in case of NET qualified (UGC/CSIR) candidates with Professional P.G. Degree, he/she will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 18,000/- per month as fellowship.

  4. Selected candidate for the position of Research Biologist will be paid a consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- per month as fellowship.

  5. The fellowship amount for the selected Senior Research Fellow is Rs. 14,000/- consolidated per month and Rs. 18,000/- in case of NET qualified candidate(s) for Research Fellows (UGC/CSIR).

  6. The fellowship amount for the selected Technical Assistant is Rs. 9,600/- consolidated per month and Rs. 12,700/- in case of NET qualified candidate(s) for Research Fellows (UGC/CSIR).

  7. Selected candidate may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.

  8. The selection of the candidate will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on Monday, 19thMarch 2012 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun. The registration will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards.

  9. Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.

  10. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinationsAll original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

  11. A candidate will be allowed to submit duly filled-in application for only one advertised position.Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be liable to rejection.

  12. One way travel expenses will be paid to the candidate, selected for the project. The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.

  13. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
