Description

A junior climate change and forestry consultant is sought to support senior staff working on REDD+ policy. A significant proportion of the consultant’s time will be spent on the USAID funded “Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forests” (LEAF) project where Climate Focus is tasked with leading the policy component. The LEAF work will focus on REDD+ policy in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, PNG, Thailand and Vietnam where the consultant will be required to help coordinate work and prepare advice and input on issues affecting REDD+ policy design and implementation. This may include legal and regulatory issues, economics, drivers of deforestation and degradation amongst others. More information on LEAF is available here. In addition to supporting senior staff working on LEAF, the consultant will be expected to support Climate Focus staff working in the US and Europe which may include conducting research, contributing to proposals and tenders, and drafting advice for clients under the direction of senior staff. Travel within S.E. Asia and elsewhere may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience in natural resource management, forest and/or agriculture policy or the carbon markets; or a master’s degree and a demonstrated interest in climate change.
  • Experience or knowledge of REDD+ and carbon markets required, experience with other areas of climate change and/or climate finance desirable.
  • Adaptable, self-motivated fast learner with strong inter-personal and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multicultural team on multiple assignments.
  • Excellent research, analysis, and writing skills.
  • Fluent in English required. Additional languages are desirable – particularly Spanish and any S.E. Asian languages.
  • Experience of working in developing countries and especially countries in SE Asia desirable.
