The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an inter-governmental organisation mandated with the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. At present, IRENA has 146 Members (145 States and the European Union) that acceded to its Statute, and 30 additional States in the process of accession and actively engaged. IRENA supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. The Agency implements its mandate with the view to sustainable development, increased energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) is responsible for the provision of the means for an accelerated renewable energy technology uptake, considering national conditions of resource endowment, social and economic frameworks. In accordance with the IRENA Statute, activities in this field include analysis of renewable energy technology policies; promote innovation; dissemination of information and increased awareness; technology overview and assessment of success-failure factors; improved pertinent knowledge and technology transfer, and joint research, development and demonstration; and provision of information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy. The purpose of the Junior Professional Associates Programme is to enable junior talented and promising university graduates and post graduates to gain first-hand experience in the work of IRENA and a deeper insight into the role of the Agency in promoting the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. The programme offers valuable exposure to IRENA’s main activities and programmatic areas. On occasion, there are also opportunities in support areas such as administration, finance, human resources and public information. The Agency will also benefit from gaining new and motivated members of staff, bringing new skills and perspectives. Under the supervision of Programme Officer – Energy Planning of IITC, the JPA will contribute to work under the thematic area: Planning for the global energy transition, primarily on the activities related to (1) consolidating modelling methodologies for better energy system planning with more renewables, (2) assisting member countries in deploying such methodologies, and (3) providing analytical support to other programs within IRENA. More specifically the JPA will contribute to the following tasks:

Qualifications Education: Advanced university degree in energy system analysis, economics, engineering or related fields. Experience/Skills: Analytical skills and expertise in energy data analysis, energy modeling tools, and literature review. Good communication skills, and ability to adapt the writing style to suite the audience. Proven track record in the above skills, e.g., relevant scientific publications and reports, would be an advantage. Languages: Excellent command of written and spoken English is a must.
