Description
you will carry out independently or together with your research colleagues applied ecological research in the Delta area of the Netherlands. The research varies from monitoring, assessment of human impacts, and advice regarding the management of marine and estuarine ecosystems. It covers different aspects of the ecosystem like habitats, zoobenthos, fish, birds and marine mammals. Research can vary from field studies, experimental studies, data management and analyses, modeling, desk and literature studies. Besides reporting within the so-called grey literature you will be asked to regularly publish your research in peer reviewed scientific journals and to present your work at symposia. Scientific coaching of MSc students will also be part of your job

Requirements

University Graduate
A graduated scientist (PhD or minimum MSc level) with a specialization in marine or aquatic ecology. Experience with ecological research in estuarine ecosystems and/or the Delta area will be beneficial. You preferably possess strong analytical qualities and experience with statistical analyses and/or model development. You should be a team player but also independent and able to take the initiative. You should have affinity with applied research. Experience with project management and tendering of research is beneficial. You are a good communicator and well informed with respects to the developments within your research area. You should have the capacity to set a scientific performance within the conditions of a contract research organization

Wageningen IMARES (Institute for Marine Resources and Ecosystem Studies) is the Netherlands research institute established to provide the scientific support that is essential to developing policies and innovation in respect of the marine environment, fishery activities, aquaculture and the maritime sector.
Wageningen IMARES is an independent, objective and authoritative institute whose aim is to find the right equilibrium between marine ecology, seafood production and maritime economy
a key, proactive player in national and international marine research networks (including ICES and EFARO)
We carry out research for both national authorities and specific research programmes (50%), international RTD programmes (30%) and contract research for private, public and NGO partners (20%). Our key focal research areas cover ecology, environmental conservation and protection, fisheries, aquaculture, ecosystem based economy, coastal zone management and marine governance.

Wageningen IMARES has some two hundred people active in field surveys, experimental studies, from laboratory to mesocosm scale, modelling and assessment, scientific advice and consultancy. Our work is supported by unique in-house facilities that include specialist marine analysis labs, experimental halls, outdoor mesocoms, specific field-sampling devices, databases and models. The Wageningen IMARES quality system is ISO 9001 certified.

We collaborate with fellow research specialists where necessary and where such collaboration generates clear added value. Our research is regularly published in international peer reviewed publications. As part of Wageningen UR, Wageningen IMARES has close ties with Wageningen University and the Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences. Both universities cater for Bachelor, professional Master and academic Master education programmes. The institute runs a PhD programme together with Wageningen University

The Ecology Department of IMARES (53 people) focuses on the functioning of the marine and coastal ecosystem in relation to the influence of human activities. Observations in the field are essential to unravel the mysteries of the marine world
