Role Overview
Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is seeking a motivated, Junior Environmental Engineer/Scientist to join our team in Chelmsford, MA and support projects involving environmental planning, permitting and engineering related to a variety of water resources projects including stormwater management, watershed assessment and restoration, and NPDES permit support and compliance.  The Chelmsford office includes a multi-disciplinary environmental consulting team with approximately 75 professionals including engineers, scientists, risk assessors, environmental permitting, designers, and support staff. Amec Foster Wheeler offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging and innovative projects for a wide range of clients throughout the US.
 
Key Responsibilities
The position will involve all facets of both environmental planning and engineering including, but not limited to: stormwater management, pollution prevention, environmental compliance, watershed assessment and restoration, stormwater program planning, stormwater financing/utilities, analysis and design of stormwater BMPs and green infrastructure, and construction oversight.
 
This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of engineers and scientists to address complex environmental challenges executing the following roles/responsibilities:
  • Prepare environmental permit applications and compliance reports supporting industrial stormwater permitting;
  • Analyze and interpret environmental data and prepare routine monitoring reports;
  • Perform GIS and spatial analysis, as well as database management;
  • Develop erosion and sediment control designs and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans for construction sites;
  • Prepare feasibility studies and final designs for stormwater BMPs for new and redevelopment (retrofit) projects;
  • Support engineering projects with field data collection, analysis and preliminary design;
  • Support engineering projects with construction oversight and inspection; and
  • Perform environmental compliance inspections for municipal, commercial and industrial facilities.   
Role Requirements 
  • BS in Environmental Engineering/Science;
  • 2 to 4 years of report writing, field assessments, planning, design and permitting experience with a focus on water resource projects, or similar;
  • Experience with a variety of water resource permits, specifically EPA NPDES permitting (e.g., CGP, MSGP, RGP, MS4);
  • Experience developing conceptual and preliminary designs for stormwater BMPs and retrofits;
  • Familiarity with green infrastructure techniques;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Strong organizational abilities;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products;
  • Proficient in GIS software applications;
  • Demonstrated professional judgment, consistency and attention to detail;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites; Anticipated travel expected to be less than 10% overnight travel; however, extended travel up to two weeks is possible at times;
  • Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs;
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if required; and
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification; 
  • Experience related to stormwater financing and feasibility studies for stormwater utilities;
  • Experience using GIS and database management;
  • Construction inspection/oversight experience;
  • Experience in stormwater BMP design, including low impact development and green infrastructure stormwater management practices;
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with the ability/desire to lead tasks;
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Self-starter and fast learner. 
Physical Demands
  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions; and
  • May lift equipment and carry laboratory samples which require the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
