Role Profile

The Zoological Society of London is seeking a Junior Conservation Biologist to support project planning and delivery to the Estuaries and Wetlands Conservation Programme. They will be part of a busy team, focusing on marine and freshwater projects, and will have the opportunity to gain experience at a globally respected conservation organisation. The position will have a one year contract, starting 23rd March 2020. The role is 5 days per week and is based at ZSL’s Conservation Programmes department in Regent’s Park.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Project delivery within the Estuaries and Wetlands Conservation Programme focussing on project implementation planning, delivery, analysis and interpretation of results. This will involve survey work in the field and will include the production of technical reports for funders and partner organisations including government agencies. 

 

The successful candidate will support staff within the programme in the production of funding proposals and will also contribute to the production of larger funding proposals involving staff from other programmes. They will also contribute to the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with sponsors and donors in order to generate and secure funding for the Estuaries and Wetlands Conservation Programme and, where required, the post holder will assist with administrative support for the programme.

Person Specification

  • The candidate should be self-motivated and possess good communication skills as they may be tasked with assisting the team with reports and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience of aquatic sampling techniques would be useful but not essential, as would some knowledge of the Thames Estuary and its fauna.
  • Knowledge of GIS and stats or at least an advanced grasp of Excel.
  • Willingness to carry out physically demanding fieldwork in sometimes challenging conditions and a confidence around water will both be necessary.
  • It is essential that candidates have either a full UK or international manual driving licence and be confident of driving through London.
