Description

This is an exciting opportunity to help Buckinghamshire Council address environmental challenges by taking on an important role in delivering our response to climate change. Buckinghamshire Council is recruiting for a Junior Climate Change Officer. The position sits within an expanding team and is critical to helping us achieve our ‘net-zero’ ambitions. 

About the role

The Council’s Climate Change and Air Quality Strategy were adopted in 2021 and the Climate Response Team is tasked with helping fulfil commitments set out in this document. The purpose of this role will be to support the identification, development and delivery of climate change mitigation and adaptation projects. It’s anticipated that the postholder will focus on providing project support pursuant to achieving the aims of the Strategy, data and information collection and analysis, and the preparation of performance reports and other documentation. This will involve working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

Collect and analyse project information and other data to assist project delivery and enable performance reporting

Liaise with Council teams (and external organisations, as required) to facilitate information sharing and the development of projects

Undertake research, carry out assessments, and prepare documentation as required to support the work delivered by the Team

Provide help with the Team’s communications work, including responses to enquiries 

As new opportunities to address climate change emerge, we expect that the range of activities and projects will also change over time. 

As an ‘any-desk’ worker, you’ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements*.

About you

We are looking for a confident and organised person with relevant career experience leading on or supporting projects.

You will have good customer service, communication, research, ICT, literacy and numeracy skills; and have had the experience of producing reports and explaining issues relating to environmental sustainability. Knowledge about and/or experience in a role addressing climate change and/or the circular economy is desirable.
