Description
Under the direct supervision of the IUCN European Biodiversity Conservation Officer, the Junior Biodiversity Conservation Officer will support the work and projects of the IUCN Global Species Programme in Europe. This will include activities such as providing support in the coordination of certain project tasks, assisting in the organisation of workshops, contributing to carrying out research on certain topics, and assisting in writing technical reports, as well as a range of administrative activities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This assignment will include the following responsibilities:

• Assist in the implementation of the LIFE European Red Lists of Bryophytes, including: liaising with experts and monitoring their progress in delivering high quality assessments, reviewing assessments, performing consistency checks of species assessments and maps, compiling species photos and uploading them to the Red List Species Information System, and contributing to drafting the final publication; 
• Provide administrative assistance in the implementation of the EU IAS Secretariat project, including: issuing contracts with consultants and ensure the timely payment of invoices; 
• Assist in the implementation of the EC project ‘Improving the performance of the Natura 2000 network through a Green Listing approach’ including: subcontracting consultants and contributing to drafting technical reports;
• Organise workshops and project meetings;
• Support the development of project proposals;
• Provide a range of administrative support functions on a day-to-day basis (e.g. processing of invoices, issuing consultancy contracts etc);
• Will be required to provide support on a range of tasks as delegated by his/her Line Manager.

The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in a small organisation such as IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee's responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and the Human Resources Management Group.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Affinity with the vision and mission of IUCN;

• A relevant University degree (environmental science, biodiversity conservation, biology - or any other discipline that is relevant to nature conservation);

• At least 2 years of work experience in the field of nature conservation, sustainable development or a related area of work;

• Knowledge of European nature legislation and familiarity with EU funding and policy processes is an asset

• Excellent level of written and spoken English (native speaker or equivalent), other languages an asset;

• Good organizational, administrative and reporting skills;

• Strong writing and editing skills;

• Ability to work independently and on multiple tasks simultaneously;

• Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs, and

• A team player with a strong interest to work in an international environment.
