RESPONSIBILITIES - Develop and maintain relationships with reporters, television producers and other journalists in the United States.
- Assist in developing regional and national media strategies, including the development of key messages for Greenpeace campaigns and projects.
- Coordinate media outreach with Greenpeace International.
- Produce written materials including press releases, press advisories, op-eds, letter to the editors, and fact sheets.
- Identify, brief and train Greenpeace staff to act as effective spokespeople.
- Participate in the planning meetings of Greenpeace project teams and provide ongoing advice about media aspects of the project or campaign.
- Facilitate media requests including background materials, appropriate spokespeople, etc.
- Monitor and track media coverage relevant to Greenpeace's campaigns and overall mission.
- Respond rapidly to breaking news.
- Assist in coordinating media events such as press conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Media Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree; at least 2 years experience working in a media outlet or in the media department of an NGO or other relevant communications experience. Excellent writing skills. Sound news judgment; ability to multi-task and to work on deadline. Ability to travel. Relevant media contacts a plus.
