Come be part of the Board for our small charity working on system change through the use of the arts!

We are eager to hear from people with either arts or environmental/social justice backgrounds who share some of our passions and whose values align with our mission. Since becoming a registered charity in 2019, we have been bringing together artists, experts and civil society groups in exciting ways to figure out and communicate what “system change not climate change” might mean. You can be at any stage in your career if your values align with ours and you can bring something to progressing our small charity! Beyond the CV building opportunity that being a Board member of a charity will bring you, this small time commitment is an opportubity for you to contribute signficant ideas or energy to our creative work on system change. 

We understand that we cannot address climate change without also shifting the deep logics of the economic system and certain values and mythologies that hold the status quo in place. We also understand that environmental and social justice challenges are often intertwined. To our knowledge, we are the only UK environmental charity specifically focussed on advancing and communicating system change and solutions through the arts.

Currently with small funding limited to a project by project basis, a typical year for us involves some peaks of exciting activities and then periods of fallow time when we evaluate what we achieved and learned and consolidate new rounds of funding.

We are open to receiving applications from people at any stage in their life or career journey. While Trustees of registered charities cannot receive payment, it is a career building opportunity. But beyond the CV building opportunity that being a Trustee can provide you, this is also an opportunity for you to contribute ideas and contacts, and help shape our next phase of activity from the summer onwards. While not essential, applicants with some fundraising experience, OR who are happy to occasionally help out with a funding application or strategywill be highly regarded.

The time commitment for a Board member is small : 3 or 4 Board Meetings a year – these are usually held online on Wednesday evenings at 8pm, plus a goal to meet in person at least once per year for an Annual Away Day. If you are able and interested to help out beyond this minimum commitment, for occasional meetings with funders or influencers, or to attend exhibitions/events when we have them, that would be wonderful and would ensure you feel fully part of the Swarm circle. In person meetings will usually be held in London or Brighton area.
