NHBS is a world leader in supplying Natural History, Ecology and Conservation books and equipment to institutions, retailers, companies, libraries, academics and private customers around the world. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated recent undergraduate to assist our busy equipment team for a one-year assignment. The post will involve a large variety of tasks supporting our busy office and warehouse in Totnes, Devon. You will learn about retail and gain valuable all-round business experience. On-the-job training will be provided.

Responsibilities

You will carry out a wide range of equipment related logistics and customer services tasks. You will be joining a team of three equipment specialists. Specific tasks may include:

  • Product range – including sourcing new products, preparing product descriptions, creating images and monitoring product performance
  • Inventory management – receiving equipment orders into the warehouse, stock taking, and helping to pick and prepare large equipment orders
  • Purchasing - dealing with queries about products and pricing, requests for information, and supplier returns
  • Customer support – you will administrate the returns process, dealing with customer queries and contacting suppliers
  • Marketing - preparing marketing materials including blog posts and emails
  • Other tasks in the company as required

Skills required

  • Undergraduate degree desirable
  • An interest in natural history and ecology and the kit that people use to survey, study and enjoy it is essential
  • A good telephone manner and outstanding written communication skills are essential
  • Attention to detail
  • Language skills: a second language in addition to English would be advantageous
  • Above all, we value a common sense approach, critical thinking and a willingness to learn new skills

Our offer to you

Our warehouse and office is based on the industrial estate in Totnes. We have been selling natural history and science books for thirty years, and ecological survey equipment since 2009. The successful candidate will be joining a diverse and friendly workforce of 22 staff.

This position reports to the Senior Manager (Equipment).

This position is available immediately. Salary: £14,500 to 15,500 based on a 37.5 hour week with the position attracting 28 days holiday p.a, including bank holidays. The contract will initially be offered for one year, with the possibility of extension after this time.
