Description
Overview:

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a volunteer to assist the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Pangolin Specialist Group (www.pangolinsg.org) with co-ordinating the implementation of the global pangolin conservation action plan ‘Scaling up pangolin conservation’. This will involve assisting with monitoring progress towards action plan goals, assisting with the organisation of events to raise awareness of pangolins, updating the PangolinSG website and social media, identifying funding opportunities for pangolin research/conservation, and providing general support to the PangolinSG membership.

Person Specification:

Candidates should ideally have excellent written communication skills and attention to detail, and an undergraduate or Masters level degree in biology, conservation or a related subject.

The volunteering opportunity is for six months, starting in November 2015. The role is ideally three days or more per week and is based within the Zoological Society of London (ZSL)’s Conservation Programmes department in Regent’s Park, London. All applicants must be able to show that they have permission to work in the UK.

Please note that this is a voluntary position. However, the PangolinSG will reimburse travel costs against receipt up to the maximum equivalent of a weekly zone 1-6 travel card and up to £5 per volunteering day for lunch.

In this role, the voluntary intern will benefit from:

  • On the job training - providing technical advice, raising awareness and generating support for pangolin research and conservation.
  • Other learning opportunities are available through weekly research seminars, conservation talks, which voluntary interns are strongly encouraged to attend.
  • Learning about the principles of conservation.
  • Experience with the mechanics of updating the PangolinSG website and social media, identifying funding opportunities for pangolin research/conservation, and providing general support to the PangolinSG membership.
  • Experience of how a conservation NGO operates.
  • Interaction with wider staff in CP.
